Volunteering at AGE of Central Texas:

Volunteers are crucial to the work we do at AGE of Central Texas. With six programs addressing the needs of older adults and family caregivers, we have plenty of opportunities for volunteering. 

Group Volunteers

Group volunteer opportunities are perfect for way to make company outings or gatherings more impactful and promote team bonding. Currently, we are only accepting groups of 10 or less. 

*Please note AGE of Central Texas does not offer regular weekend volunteer opportunities.

Individual Volunteering

Individual volunteering is a great way to satisfy needed volunteer hours or simply give back to your community in an impactful way. AGE of Central Texas has 3 programs offering volunteering opportunities. Each one offers a unique way to serve the older adult and caregiver community. See below to determine which program is the best fit for you!

Health Equipment Lending Program (H.E.L.P)

AGE’s Health Equipment Lending Program provides free durable medical equipment and incontinence items at no cost to those in need. 

Volunteer Expectations

  • Organize and inventory donated items (incontinence supplies, durable medical equipment)
  • Prep items for donation (label and organize items for client pick-up)
  • Clean, sanitize, and prep durable medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc…)

    Thrive Social & Wellness Centers

    AGE’s Thrive Social & Wellness Centers provide vibrant and dignified licensed adult day health care. 

    Volunteer Expectations

    Thrive Center volunteers should be comfortable interacting in a 1:1 setting with older adults with cognitive and or/physical disabilities.  

    • Engaging in conversation with Thrive Center Members 
    • Games/puzzles with Thrive Center Members 
    • Assisting with daily scheduled activities 
    • Performing for or entertaining Thrive Center members (musical enrichment, movement activities, etc)

          Memory Connections

          Memory Connections is a comprehensive lifestyle program that empowers those served to take a proactive approach to their changes in memory and cognition. The program includes Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, Daily Group Activity Schedule, Support Groups, Brain Health Education. Memory Connections core programming happens virtually with the option for occasional monthly meetups

          Volunteer Expectations & Types of Volunteers: 

          Guest Presenter (short term)

          • Minimum time requirement: 2 hours including a brief training and the presentation of your choosing 
          • Prepare a presentation on a topic or hobby of your choosing 
          • Be comfortable presenting/speaking to a virtual audience 

          Program Volunteer (long term)

          • The minimum term commitment is 3 months, with a minimum time requirement of 3 hours a week, including a brief training  
          • Work with program staff to create a presentation schedule 
          • Prepare a series of presentations, discussions, or activities appropriate for Memory Connections program participants
